In Ibbi town, Niger State, a local vigilante group has fought back against the invaders, murdering no less than 50 bandits who had been terrorizing and kidnapped the area’s citizens for ransom.
After the kidnapping of 12 residents of the community roughly two weeks ago, vigilantes attacked the bandits and destroyed their encampment at the foot of a mountain in Kainji National Park.
According to a source from the neighborhood, the vigilante group pursued the robbers in a raid that began four days ago with assistance from their colleagues from Niger South. The vigilantes reportedly lost two of their guys during the operation, while the bandits claimed nine lives.
The source said, “While the bandits were waiting to receive the ransom on the 12 people they had abducted, the vigilantes struck, killing no fewer than 50 of the bandits. Annoyed by the attack, the bandits killed nine (of their hostages) and three others escaped unhurt.
“Among those killed was the registrar of the Sharia Court in Ibbi; about six women and three men, but three other men were able to escape from the bandits. As I am talking to you now, the vigilantes have destroyed their camps and chased them out of the national park.”
