Abubakar Abdulaziz, 30, has been detained by the Katsina State Police Command on suspicion of kidnapping and murdering a three-year-old boy in the state’s Musawa Local Government Area.
This information can be found in a statement made on Monday in Katsina by the command’s public relations officer, CSP Gambo Isah.
“Adamu Alhassan of Bacirawa village, Musawa Local Government Area, Katsina State, was asleep when the suspect allegedly trespassed into his home on March 23 about 1:00 a.m. He then abducted his three-year-old son.
“He dropped a letter, demanding N800,000 in ransom from Alhassan, and gave a contact number,” the man claimed.
Isah said the father made the contact, negotiated, and paid the sum of N150,000 to secure the release of his child, “but to no avail”.
The spokesman said upon receipt of the report from the father, detectives swung into action, and traced and arrested the suspect.
“During the course of the investigation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the offences and further confessed to having buried the child alive after receiving the ransom,” he said.
Isah said the suspect would be charged in court.
